Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes Route 40 In South Jersey

Route 40 was closed for more than two hours Monday after a tractor-trailer jackknifed, authorities said.

The crash occurred at milepost 7.7 on Route 1 near Jill Road in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, just before noon, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman.

The roadway was shut down for the removal of the tractor-trailer and reopened at about 2 p.m., State Police said.

No injuries were reported. 

Verizon responded to work on damage to utility wires.
